Happy Start to the 2011 Eat Local Challenge
September 5, 2011
Hello!
I’m blogging for the Co-op’s Eat Local Challenge, and today is the first day of the challenge! Check out my Top 10 Reasons for Eating Local (some of which carry over from last year). Are you taking part in the Challenge this year? Any local items you’re especially excited about?
I’ve been feasting on all of the bounty I’ve been getting from my CSA farm, April’s Garden. Here are some images from the farm I thought I’d share.
XO,
Stephanie

Oh, Stephanie, you’re going to love November at the Kitchen Reader: Julie has picked two books about local eating with very different viewpoints and you get to choose one or both to read! Beautiful pictures, especially the tomatoes.
Sarah, I am so excited! My book for September just arrived today, and I can’t wait to get started. 🙂
I did not “officially” sign up to Eat Local this year for a couple reasons, but I had an amazing salad today with greens and tomatoes from the Monona Farmers Market, Crave Brothers mozz and basil from my garden. It’s tried and true and (often) boring, but SO good. Sometimes I don’t want to have to think about lunch so much.
(Part of the reason I’m not an official challenger = balsamic vinegar and olive oil drizzled over the top. Last year the lack of lemon and decent vinegar for salads made me want to bail early!)
Hey Lindsay! Nice to see you here. 🙂
Last year i tried to do 100% local, and ran into a lot of frustrations due to my love of things like vinegar, olive oil and coffee. This year I signed up for the “Extreme” level, and made up a list of exceptions. It certainly has made the Challenge more attainable and enjoyable!
